Commands
You can add and list competitors by mentioning @Agenteous in Slack. The app handles adding, pausing, and queueing moves. Competitor Intel has two Slack abilities, adding a competitor and listing the watchlist. Pausing and resuming are done in the app.
Track a Competitor
@Agenteous track rival-one.com, watch for launches and pricing changes
Competitor Intel adds the competitor to the watchlist for your current brand and confirms the name, the domain, and the move types it will watch. The move types it understands are publishes, launches, rebrands, hires, pricing changes, and partner announcements. If you name none, it watches for all of them. Priority defaults to 3 on a scale where 1 is highest, and you can state another:
@Agenteous track rival-two.com as priority 1 for [brand]
Name the brand if you want the competitor on a different brand's list than your current one.
Adding a competitor saves it to the watchlist. Include the competitor's feed address (an RSS or Atom link) if you have one, because only competitors with a feed address are checked for moves:
@Agenteous track rival-one.com, feed address https://rival-one.com/blog/feed.xml
To set or change the feed address of a competitor that is already on the list, ask for it again with the new address:
@Agenteous set the feed address for rival-one.com to https://rival-one.com/blog/feed.xml
The address must be a full link starting with http:// or https://. If it is not, Competitor Intel says so and saves nothing. Without a feed address the competitor stays on the list but is not checked; see Schedule.
Show the Watchlist
@Agenteous who are we watching?
Lists the competitors for your current brand with each one's name, domain, priority, activity score, and status. Narrow it with a status or a brand:
@Agenteous list paused competitors
Ask a Quick Question About Your Own Data
@Agenteous what do we know about [topic from our own data]?
Competitor Intel can look up an answer from your agency's connected data. This is a lookup, not a competitor action.
Add a Competitor in the App
In the app, under Marketing, Visibility, there are two places to add one:
- Competitors: enter a Competitor Domain, an optional Name and an optional Feed Address (RSS Or Atom), then click Add Competitor. The table lists Name, Domain, Priority, Velocity, Status, Watch, and Last Recon. Archive removes a competitor from the roster.
- Moves & Recon: in the Competitor Intel section, enter a domain, an optional name and an optional Feed Address (RSS Or Atom), then click Track. The table lists Competitor, Domain, Priority, Velocity, and Status.
Both forms take a domain, a name and an optional feed address. Move types and priority can be set only in Slack. The feed address can be set in Slack too.
Pause or Resume a Competitor
On Moves & Recon, click a competitor's name to open its detail page, then click Pause Watching. The competitor stays on the list with its history, and it is not checked while it is paused. Click Resume Watching to start again. There is no Slack command for this.
Review Moves
The detail page lists Recent Moves for the competitor, each with a label, the title linked to the source, and a one-sentence summary. A competitor with no recorded moves shows a note saying so.
Queue Topic
Click Queue Topic next to a move to add it to the SEO topic queue. The topic is titled "Respond to" followed by the competitor and the move. The button changes to a Queued link. Queueing creates a topic for your content team to consider. It does not publish anything. People with permission to manage marketing content can use it.
Acknowledge a Recon Change
On Moves & Recon, the Competitor Changes section lists changes from the visibility recon watch. Click Acknowledge on a change to mark it as seen. Select a brand at the top of the Visibility workspace to see its changes.
