Troubleshooting
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Competitor Intel Act on a Competitor's Moves?
No. It records and labels. It never publishes, never sends a message to anyone outside your agency, and never responds to a rival. When a move is worth a response, you click Queue Topic, which adds a topic to the SEO topic queue for your team to consider.
What Counts as a Move?
An item a competitor published or announced that Competitor Intel read and labeled. The labels are content publication, launch, rebrand, hire, pricing or packaging change, partnership announcement, and other. Each move has a one-sentence neutral summary and a link to the source.
Can Each Client Have Its Own Watchlist?
Yes. Each brand keeps a separate list. A competitor you add goes on your current brand's list, or on the brand you name.
How Often Are Competitors Checked?
Every 6 hours, for each active competitor that has a feed address. Paused competitors are skipped.
Why Does My Competitor Have No Moves?
A competitor is checked only if it has a feed address. One added in Slack has one only if you included it in the message (or set it later by asking again with the address), and one added in the app has one only if you filled in the optional Feed Address (RSS Or Atom). Such a competitor stays on the watchlist, shows "Not Watched: No Feed Address", and its detail page shows no recorded moves. This is how the agent works, not a fault with the competitor. The Competitor Changes section on Moves & Recon is a separate feed from the visibility recon watch and does not depend on feed addresses.
Will I Be Alerted Every Time a Competitor Does Something?
No. There are no per-move alerts. The only message is an optional weekly roll-up, and it posts only when it has been switched on and a Slack channel has been assigned.
Can I Pause a Competitor in Slack?
No. Slack can add competitors and list them. Pausing and resuming are on the competitor's detail page on Moves & Recon.
Can I Set Priority and Move Types in the App?
No. The app forms take a domain and a name. Set priority and move types when you add a competitor in Slack.
Common Issues
A Competitor Has No Recorded Moves
- Check whether it is Active, not Paused, on Moves & Recon. A paused competitor is not checked.
- Remember that a competitor is checked only if it has a feed address. One added in Slack or in the app without a feed address has none, so no moves are recorded for it.
- Look at the Competitor Changes section. Changes from the recon watch appear there whether or not the competitor has a feed address.
- If you need moves recorded for a particular competitor, contact support@agenteous.com with its domain.
The Weekly Roll-Up Never Arrives
- As shipped, the roll-up is switched off. It posts only when it has been switched on and a Slack channel has been assigned to Competitor Intel. Ask your administrator.
- It posts Mondays at 1pm, and only when there was at least one recorded move in the last 7 days. If no competitor has a feed address, there are no moves, so nothing posts.
- Review moves and changes in the app in the meantime.
A Move Has the Wrong Label
- Open the source link and confirm what the competitor did. The label is a quick classification to help you scan, not a verdict.
- If the label is wrong for a competitor again and again, contact support@agenteous.com with an example.
Queue Topic Did Not Produce a Post
- This is expected. Queue Topic adds a topic to the SEO topic queue for your team to consider. It does not write or publish anything.
- Look for a topic titled "Respond to" followed by the competitor. A writer can pick it up from there.
- Queue Topic needs permission to manage marketing content. If the button is refused, ask an administrator.
A Paused Competitor Is Still on the List
- This is intended. Pausing keeps the competitor and its history and stops the checks.
- Click Resume Watching on its detail page to start again.
- To remove a competitor from the roster, use Archive on the Competitors screen.
The Competitor List Differs Between Screens
- The Competitors screen is the roster that the visibility checks share. The Competitor Intel table on Moves & Recon and the Slack list show the agent's watchlist together with the roster entries for the brand.
- Roster-only entries appear on Moves & Recon without a link, because they have no detail page there. They cannot be paused from that screen.
- Check that you have the same brand selected on both screens.
