Schedule

Competitor Intel does two things on a schedule: it checks competitors for new items, and it can post a weekly roll-up. Everything else, such as adding competitors and queueing moves, happens when you do it.

Checking Competitors

A check runs every 6 hours, which is four times a day. It looks at each active competitor that has a feed address on file, reads the newest items, skips any it has already recorded, labels each new one, and records it as a move. It then updates the competitor's velocity, which counts moves over the last 30 days. A single check covers up to 50 competitors.

Paused competitors are skipped. Their history stays.

A competitor is checked only if it has a feed address. When you add a competitor in Slack, it is saved with a name, a domain, a priority, and the move types to watch, and with a feed address if you gave one. The app's Track and Add Competitor forms take an optional Feed Address (RSS Or Atom). A competitor with no feed address stays on the watchlist and is not checked, and no moves are recorded for it. The app shows it as "Not Watched: No Feed Address".

Competitor Changes From Recon

The Moves & Recon screen also lists competitor changes found by the visibility recon watch, which follows the competitors on the roster. That feed has its own schedule and does not depend on feed addresses. See Marketing SEO for how the visibility checks run.

Weekly Roll-Up

Every Monday at 1pm, Competitor Intel can assemble the last 7 days of recorded moves into a Slack card. It does not post unless two things are true: the roll-up has been switched on, and a Slack channel has been assigned to the agent. As shipped, neither is true, so nothing is posted. When there were no moves in the window, nothing is posted even when it is on.

What You Do, and When

  • Add competitors when you take on a client or want to track a new rival.
  • Review the Competitor Changes and the competitor detail pages whenever it suits you. A quick weekly scan per brand works well.
  • Queue a move when it is worth a response.
  • Pause a competitor when you stop caring about it.

Competitor Intel never publishes or sends anything on a schedule.
